“Virgin Of Marseille Under Globe Polychrome Terracotta Decor Cherubs” This 19th century Virgin is in terracotta with gold leaf gilding. This type of Virgin is called Virgin of Marseilles. It is polychrome. For the state, note friction and lack of paint, stains on the base and the Virgin, wear of gilding. Note that the Child Jesus has been reattached and that he is missing an arm, note also an accident on the Virgin’s right hand, the bouquets of paper flowers are a little faded, two holes on each shoulder of the Virgin probably missing decoration. This Virgin is in a natural, attic state. We report rubbing and light scratches on the globe as well as patina wear on the wooden base. The photos are an integral part of the description.
