A little Chinese serpentine sculpture depicting He Xiangu holding a large lotus flower in the hands. He Xiangu is often represented as a pretty girl, who wears a long stem of curved lotus on one shoulder that ends with a flower or a seed capsule. This magic lotus stem is able to heal any physical or mental illness. He Xiangu is the only female divinity among the Eight Immortals of the ancient Chinese tradition. The immortal virgin He Xiangu looks like a fairy. He was born with six hairs on his head and never grew. When she turned to 14 or 15, a divine character appeared to her in a dream and advised her to eat mother-of-pearl powder, so that her body could remain evanescent and eternal. She followed the advice and immediately promised to remain a virgin. She disappeared and became immortal as she went to the Empress Wu Zetian who had summoned her.
