Turin, 30 years Origin Turin period 30 years Author Sandro Vacchetti Sandro (Alessandro) Vacchetti was born in Carrù, in the province of Cuneo in 1889. Painter, sculptor, ceramist and designer in 1905 he left the town and reaches the Emilio and Pippo brothers in Turin where He begins to deal with advertising billboard. In 1914 he emigrated to the United States, where he has a first contact with ceramic, staying in Boston and New York. In 1919, returned to Turin, he began to collaborate, as artistic director, with the ‘Lenci’ toy factory for which he designed numerous and interesting dolls, performed in pannolenci, which soon make manufacture all over the world. In 1920 he was appointed artistic director of the company. In the same year he began to participate in the reviews organized by the Turin promoter of Fine Arts. In 1928, when his ‘Lenci’ began his ceramic activity, he is with Gigi Chessa and Giovanni Riva, the main axis of the manufacture. In 1934 he left the artistic direction of the ‘Lenci’, now agonizing, and opens in Turin, in society with the Turin ceramist in Franchini, the ‘Essevi’ manufacture, which takes its name from its initials, continuing a production similar to that made to ‘Lenci’. Between 1942 and 1945 Vacchetti moved to Carrù, in the province of Cuneo, where even if only episodically, he continues to make ceramics. In 1952 Sandro Vacchetti ceased his artisan activity and, closed the ceramic factory, returned to dedicate himself, for some years, exclusively to painting. In 1962 he moved to Rome for a few years where he opens a ceramic laboratory called ‘Crea’. He died in Turin in 1976.
