A wonderful and most decorative Italian 18th century Scagliola and Wrought Iron coffee table, circa 1730. The table is raised on four handsome claw and ball feet below the scrolled legs which are joined at the center by a single Wrought Iron stretcher. The intricately detailed Scagliola top showcases wonderful scenes of all twelve zodiac signs at the top and bottom, and Venetian crest centering each end of the table. The crest are inscribed “NOVI ORBIS TERRARUM” meaning “A New Map of the Entire World Including the New”. Centering the table is an armillary sphere with the earth at the center, which is flanked by two large scale globes with additional zodiac signs. Above the sphere are figures of fish and sailboats, with two figures of Zephyrus below directing the winds.
