Watercolored etching. It belongs to the famous atlas ‘Theatrum Orbis Terrarum’, first published by Ortelius in 1570 and then replicated numerous times over the decades. Top left the title of the map, top right the provenance of the map, from the library of the imperial historian Ioannes Sambuci; Ortelius always rigorously documented the provenance of the geographical maps it printed. Ortelius is considered one of the founders of historical geography. The etching is in good condition; it is presented in a stylish frame.
