Bram Bogart, born with the name Abraham van den Boogaart in Delft 1921 in The Netherlands and died in Sint-Truiden 2012 in Belgium. He was a Dutch/Belgian abstract painter, sculptor, graphic artist, ceramist and designer. During period late 1930s-1940s in The Hague and Delft in the Netherlands and in France, he painted landscapes, cityscapes, still lives and figure representations, painted in a style of expressionism. After a period in Rome, he settled permanently in Belgium in 1960 and took the Belgian Nationality in the late 1960s. Here he started with his characteristic, massive paintings built up in thick layers of oil paint. Bram Bogart’s works have always had a monumental character and made him one of the important representatives of so-called matter painting.
