This superb commode is by the celebrated French ébéniste Paul Sormani. The commode is of bombe shape, with a serpentine marble top above and a body mounted profusely with ormolu. The edges of the commode are set with ormolu espagnolettes, while the front and sides feature a series of blind ormolu frames moulded as acanthus leaves adorned with floral sprays. The commode features two drawers, and is marked under the marble to the back ‘SORMANI’.
